A Vision of Elvis review
A Vision of Elvis at the Playhouse Whitley Bay
Since the refurbishment of Whitley Bay Playhouse several years ago it has attracted some excellent shows and wonderful entertainers. It’s a great contemporary venue for all audiences and brings together a truly mixed crowd and a really warm Whitley Bay reception for all performers. The bar is a bit pricey but the venue itself is a great performance space with quite comfortable seating and is sufficiently popular with locals and tourists that most shows are sold out.
This weekend saw the wonder that is Rob Kingsley as Elvis in this brand new show ‘A Vision of Elvis‘, and what a superb evening of entertainment this was. Billed as getting you ‘all shook up’ it certainly delivered on its promise. I defy anyone not to have enjoyed this wonderful night of ground-breaking music that had everyone up and rocking and certainly left you in no doubt why Elvis was regarded as The King of Rock n Roll. Rob Kingsley is a perfect doppelgänger in looks and movement his voice is spectacular and The Sweet Sensations and The Cadillac Band who support him are tremendous.
From the get go of ‘Shake, Rattle and Roll‘, through a huge repertoire of everyone’s favourite Elvis songs the entire audience were dancing, clapping, cheering and then ultimately up in the aisles in a great evening of participation. With four costume changes and songs ranging from Blue Suede Shoes, Return to Sender, Little Less Conversation, Lonesome Tonight, The Wonder of You and Glory, Glory and many many more there was definitely something for everyone. The entire audience was completely engaged in this performance as the songs kept coming. One lady next to me told me that she had seen quite a few Elvis shows and Rob Kingsley was the best look and sound alike Elvis she had ever seen, it was evident by the reaction throughout the evening of the audience that they all agreed with her.
Clearly having studied his craft over several years Rob has mastered the movements and mannerisms associated with Elvis. With a very distinct Elvis sounding voice and make up that was utterly convincing, this was an absolutely great tribute performance for all Elvis fans and a hugely enjoyable evening of entertainment. The audience reaction to Rob’s charismatic performance as he immediately brought the entire room into the show was astounding. The whole room participating from the very first song. At one point Rob handed out silk scarves to excited women of the audience in true Elvis style as they rushed forward for his adoration. After the show Rob was available for autographs and photos and chatted with the crowd that had gathered which showed him to be a thoroughly nice guy who was a real people pleaser and enjoying his experience in the limelight as Elvis.
If you are a fan of Elvis and his music I would certainly recommend seeing Rob Kingsley’s show the next time he tours the region, I guarantee you will have a terrific evening.
