OXJAM North East Takeover
To celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Oxjam Festival, the Oxjam Newcastle Takeover team is putting on a 3- day festival on the 14th-16th of October.
The 14th of October will see what they hope will be the first of many an annual Gateshead Takeovers. On the 15th they have the Teen Takeover, an event specifically for performers under 18. Then on the 16th will be this year’s Ouseburn Takeover, their regular home for the last few years.
Oxjam Newcastle believe that they have what is our best ever line-up with the likes of The Jar Family, Coquin Migale, Nick Pride and The Pimptones, Twist Helix, Driven Serious, Haythem, Twister and many more already confirmed.
Oxjam will hold a Gateshead Takeover and 5 venues are currently confirmed. Prohibition Cabaret Bar, The Central Bar, Arch 16, The Blackbull and The Gateshead Railway club – all part of Gateshead’s emerging independent music scene are all taking part.
“With the emergence of these independent venues in the Arches area of Gateshead in recent years the time seemed right for our first Gateshead Takeover.”
Advanced tickets priced at £5 are available via WeGot tickets for the Gateshead Takeover that will take place on the 14th of Oct.
The Teen Takeover is an event specifically for performers under 18. They had an under 18s venue at last years takeover which proved very popular and felt the event deserved its own day this year. This will take place at Space Bar at Newcastle College – line-up and ticket information for this event will be announced soon. You can keep up to date with everything Oxjam on their Facebook page here.
The 3-day festival will draw to a close with 12 hours of Music in Ouseburn on Sunday the 16th with 6 venues as part of this year’s Ouseburn Takeover with The Cluny, Cluny 2, The Cumberland Arms, Ernest, The Tower and North-wing hosting events. There will also be additional activities taking place in Ouseburn as part of the festival.
Oxjam Music Festival is a festival in aid of Oxfam and ran by volunteers. It is held every October all across the UK. Working closely with the local music scene Oxjam’s main aim is to raise money and awareness for Oxfam as well as celebrating local artists.
Over the 3 days over 60 bands and 12 venues will be part of this years Oxjam Takeover – an event run entirely by volunteers seeking to raise money for Oxfam, in order to help them with the great work they do.
See http://oxjamnewcastle.wix.com/2016 for the full lineup, tickets and information about our other fundraisers.
The Oxjam event is run entirely by a very small team of dedicated volunteers, seeking to raise money for Oxjam via the takeover festival and other events that take place throughout the year. This years fundraising activities started with a successful Lip Sync Battle at The Cumberland Arms in June and will continue with Fundraisers at Long Play Café (22nd August), Bar Loco (17th Sept) and Trinity Square (24th Sept) after the Takeover (14th-16th Oct) Oxjam will end this years fundraising with their inaugural Gala Ball at the Assembly Rooms (18th Nov).
