What:  Poo Week (February half-term)

Details: Get the scoop on poop at Life this February half-term, as we doo-doo all things poo. It’s icky fun, but jam-packed with science. Visit the Science Theatre for Number 2 – the poo show to learn about human and animal digestion; take part in an experiment on pee, poo and paper; and create and invent with toilet roll tubes in the Making Space. Keep your eyes peeled for our Science Buskers, whose bag of tricks will include real fossilised dinosaur poo! With everything inside Life Science Centre included in your Science Centre ticket, you don’t need to be ‘flush’ to enjoy a full day out this half-term!

What:  Journey 2: The Mysterious Island – Chase over Atlantis

Details: Hitch a ride on this incredible voyage that has Sean and his friends searching for his long lost grandfather, which leads them to the elusive “Mysterious Island”. ​This immersive experience – that includes riding on the backs of giant bees, soaring over the jungle and through the treetops, and dodging the beaks of hungry birds – is a one-of-a-kind ride you won’t want to miss! Please note – you must be at least 1.2 metres in height to use the Motion Ride.

Details: Led by Life’s friendly Science Explainers, these regular events provide a delightful opportunity for young children (under 4s) to enjoy and explore the Science Centre. Each session offers a mix of classic activities, such as Piccolo Music workshops, mini-beast handling and a toddler bubble disco alongside new activities, so that every event is different. Access to our Hands-on Young Explorers’ Zoneand an under-7s planetarium show is also available during these special days.

Details: It’s easy to think that you need expensive equipment to start stargazing; however you’ll be amazed at what you can see by just using your eyes! Enjoy a tour of the night sky in this new planetarium show and learn to recognise planets, find stars and constellations and see satellites – all without the help of a telescope. Recommended suitable for ages 7+.

What:  Number 2 – the poo show

Details: Number 2 – the poo show explores the weird and wonderful world of waste, from the cubed droppings from wombats to how astronauts poo in space. The science behind household sanitation will also be covered, revealing why there’s always some water in the toilet bowl. Recommended suitable for ages 5+.

What:  The Polar Express Journey to the North Pole

Details: New 4D Ride! When a doubting young boy takes an extraordinary train ride to the North Pole, he embarks on a journey of self-discovery that shows him that the wonder of life never fades for those who believe. ​The Polar Express Journey to the North Pole is a six minute film based on the inspiring and beloved Caldecott Medal winning children’s book by Chris Van Allsburg. Please note- for safety reasons you must be at least 1.2 metres in height to use the Motion Ride.

Details: The perfect place for a spot of wintery fun with friends and family, skating at Life is a must on your winter check list! Grab your mates and head down to Life where the outdoor ice rink is open every day except Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day. There’s no need to book if you’re visiting with fewer than 10 people, just turn up and pay on the day (however, booking is required on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve, please see life.org.uk for details.)

Details:  Don’t miss Dino Jaws, an amazing exhibition from the Natural History Museum, featuring life-size animatronic dinosaur heads – including the terrifying T. rex! Explore the sometimes gruesome, always fascinating, subject of dinosaurs and their food; from the notorious flesh-eating habits of T. rex to the vegetarian tastes of Iguanodon. In this exhibition you can also explore intriguing fossil evidence, hands-on exhibits and scientific insights that reveal everything we know about what and how dinosaurs ate.

Details:  In this enchanting planetarium show especially for under 7s, Little Bear goes stargazing and finds many dot-to-dot animals including a whale, a swan and a lion. She keeps on looking until she finds a little bear, just like her, in the night sky. Recommended suitable for under 7s.
