Newcastle’s only Scandinavian design store opens in the Grainger Market
From this weekend Newcastle has it’s own Scandinavian design store in Grainger Market, brought to you by NE6-based, Helsinki-born, interior designer Krista Puranen Wilson.
KOTA (the word means ‘home’ in Finnish and is taken from the Sami word for teepee) offers contemporary homeware, fashion, stationery and fabric from across the five countries of Scandinavia.
“We’re the sole UK outlet for the majority of the brands in stock” says Krista, who came to the UK twelve years ago to study interior design.
“We stock eco-friendly products, hand chosen and in small editions, so there’s very little chance anyone else will have the same item” she says.
“And what’s even better, we’re working with suppliers like Costo and PolkkaJam who use recycled materials. So you can shop with a clean conscience and do your bit for the environment”.
“We can also offer a full interior design service and can transform your fabrics into curtains, cushions and fashion“.
Krista lives in the east end of Newcastle, and is an interiors expert, having worked on a number of commercial and residential spaces in the North East, including Catpawcino cat cafe on the Quayside. She has previously worked as a fashion stylist in Helsinki, art director of a number of feature films, and as a consultant for Fenwicks and Laura Ashley, among others.
“Newcastle is changing fast and I felt it was time to introduce some top quality Nordic design to our city. There’s a real gap in the market for well-produced, eco-friendly, attractive, items. These products are not only useful, they’re talking points.”
KOTA is located at Unit 103, Alley 3, Grainger Market, Newcastle NE1 and is open from 10am-5pm Monday to Saturday.
