Keep Dancing review

Keep Dancing is the ballroom dance sensation that will high kick your summer off to a good start.

Fans of BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing will be flocking to the Theatre Royal this week as the ballroom sensation that is Keep Dancing showcases some of the show’s finest stars.

A cast of supporting dancers kick off the show with a high-energy rendition of You Should Be Dancing, with songs provided by the vocal powerhouses that are Harriet Mullen and Adam Warmington.  From the opening number, it’s clear that we’re in safe hands as the confident performers warm up the quiet Tuesday night crowd.

World Latin Champions Katya Jones and Neil Jones are two of the most familiar faces from Strictly Come Dancing. Their standout routine is the emotionally evoking performance of Birdy’s People Help The People.  There’s no questioning their on-stage chemistry (well, they have been married for three years now) and Katya, a self-confessed “perfectionist”, is a gripping spectacle to watch.

Our third Strictly guest star, Robin Windsor, was yet another delight for audiences with his skilled hip-shaking and natural charisma commanding all the attention in the room. Sultry duets with Victoria Burke proved his World Championship status is well-earned.

The Theme from New York, New York could have been dropped from the show – a predictable number that offered nothing more than cruise ship style choreography. However, the energetic first half ends with a lively performance of Jump Jive An’ Wail leaving the audience tapping their feet as they left the stalls for a short break.

The second half kicks off with Let’s Get Loud and stand out performances of this act included Warmington’s mesmerizing rendition of Bailamos and the Disco Medley/Gloria Estefan Medley finished the show on a high.

If you’re free this weekend and fancy a serotonin boost – this is the show for you.

Keep Dancing is showing now till Saturday, 22nd April at Theatre Royal on Grey Street.
