With so many acts on you are really spoilt for choice. Like many north-east music fans we have been feverishly working out our list of bands to see at this years Evolution Emerging festival. We caught up with one of our favourite local artists Keiandra ahead of her performance at The Cluny Tipping Point Stage at 7:45pm.
NOIN: “Hi Keiandra, one for people out there who might not have seen/heard you yet, how would you describe your music?”
Keiandra: “I always find it quite hard to describe, kind of like alt-dream-pop it’s difficult to box it up in just one genre!”
NOIN: “Who are your music influences”
Keiandra: “I’d say Fleetwood Mac, Tame Impala, Suzanne Vega and Warpaint“
NOIN: “What can people expect from your set at Evo Emerging?“
Keiandra: “Lots of glitter, And the rest is a secret so you’ll just have to come to find out!“
NOIN: “Are you excited or nervous to be playing your home town?“
Keiandra: “Im both excited, and nervous! Me and my band are playing some new songs so thats pretty nerve-wracking, I’m playing some more instruments live too! Of course its exciting because two years ago I played my first show as Keiandra solo at Evolution Emerging at Blank Studios and it’s just lovely to be able to come back like so much further on than I was back then and with my lovely band!”
NOIN: “How important is it to you to sing at festivals like this?“
Keiandra: “Super important, its just so much fun! Getting to play with loads of bands you know and look up too and also finding new bands and meeting new people. It’s just really really lovely to have the opportunity to do it.”
NOIN: “Obviously there are a lot of great acts performing at Evo Emerging, who are you looking forward to seeing?”
Keiandra: “Really want to be able to see, Callum Pitt, Cape Cub, Primitive Painters and Fletcher Jackson. I’ve heard and seen first hand that they’re all fabulous”
NOIN: “Will you be hitting the town after your gig?“
Keiandra: “I’ll for sure be going to the after party, and ill just see where the night takes me! I think I’m going to be pretty buzzy after playing so I can’t imagine why I would’nt want to go out and wiggle away into the night! Ha!”
NOIN: “Being local what is your idea of an ideal Night Out In Newcastle?“
Keiandra: “Good vibes, Good Tunes, Good friends!”
With such a choice of great talented local artists, musical styles and venues Evolution Emerging really has something for everyone, with everything from R&B, alt-pop, punk, hip-hop, indie-pop, electronic and more. The close tight nit venues across the Ouseburn Valley mean you can easily zig-zag between them to see your favourite bands perform.
With a line-up of over 40 bands and 10 different venues it definite pays to turn up early and do your homework! Work out who to see and when to make the most of this fabulous line up. Like Keiandra we are really looking forward to seeing Callum Pitt who will be at The Cluny 2 at 5pm.
His new single ‘You’d Better Sell It While You Can’ blew us away when he released it and we can’t wait to see what else he will be performing.
Another act that caught our eye was the fabulous Rebekah Fitch.
The Belfast-born musician now calls Durham her home and has made a real name for herself with some stunning singles.
She plays at Ernest at 8.30, with influences ranging from Florence and the Machine and Sia to Amy Winehouse and Lorde, you can expect a real eclectic set from the talented musician.
With all this talent on show Evolution Emerging 2017 promises to be a great event, showcasing some of the regions very best music.
