Double Bill: GoGo Penguin and Shobaleader One

Saturday 1st April, 2017  8.00pm – The Sage Gateshead

Shobaleader One

Squarepusher returns with a brand new project, Shobaleader One, and the great news is he is coming to the Sage Gateshead.

We have been lucky enough to get some press tickets for this upcoming gig and cannot wait to see what amazing treats they will serve up for us!  It promises to be a unmissable performance with their usual high energy, dizzying use of lights and firing up of their devoted fans.

Featuring Squarepusher on bass, Strobe Nazard on keys, Arg Nution on guitar, and Company Laser on drums, Shobaleader One will deliver choice tunes from the Squarepusher catalogue featuring classics from albums like Hard Normal Daddy and Music Is Rotted One Note.  This is definitely an experience no Squarepusher devotee or adventurous music fan should miss.

GoGo Penguin

Hailing from Manchester, acoustic-electronica trio GoGo Penguin are pianist Chris Illingworth, bassist Nick Blacka and drummer Rob Turner.

Drawing on influences from Brian Eno and John Cage, to Massive Attack and Aphex Twin they create a brave new sound all their own.

Defined by skittering break-beats, powerful sub-bass, telepathic interplay and a penchant for anthemic melody they create an emotionally rich palate for the listener that has seen them hailed as the most exciting new band to emerge from the UK in years.

Their album V2.0 was named a Mercury Prize album of the year 2014. In 2015 they signed a three album deal with Blue Note Records and this tour will feature material from their debut album Man Made Object.
