CC Cabanas

CC Cabanas

Here at Nights Out In Newcastle we really love our scran, so we were thrilled to be asked to review the food at CC Cabanas in Walker, and we certainly were not disappointed when we popped in for a Friday night feast!

This hidden gem is tucked away on Mitchell Street in Walker, attached to the neighbouring local, the Crockets Hotel, a traditional pub with accommodation upstairs.

We were given a warm and friendly welcome to this charming family run business and made ourselves comfortable in their beautifully decorated and comfy dinning area.   The atmosphere was very relaxing and we settled in with a few drinks as we checked out their extensive menu.  Their food is a pleasantly surprising mix of well-loved classics such Mussels in White Wine, Prawns in Garlic Butter and Fillet Steaks, as well as modern crowd pleasers like their Cabana Slider Burgers, Ribs, Pizza and Pastas, but with some exciting Spanish additions with Tapas, Calamari and my favourite Canadian potatoes with Mojo Sauce.

We went for a little bit of everything as we were pretty hungry and wanted to try as much of their fantastic menu as possible.  One of our starters was a delicious serving Seafood Ravioli, this was amazing a definitely worth a try.  They are really great for seafood lovers with some fantastic options on their menu and specials of the day.  They put a strong emphasis on using the best seasonal locally sourced ingredients to create deliciously enjoyable food, with everything freshly homemade on the premises by head chef Rob.  Another great dish was the King Prawns in Garlic Butter.  They are absolutely perfectly cooked and did not last long, with us fighting over who would get the last one!

For the veggie option we sampled some stunning Tempura young sprouting Broccoli with Mojo Verde Sauce.  This was a great dish, for those who have not tried Mojo Sauce before it is a super addictive and thoroughly delicious sauce that originated in the Canary Islands, made with olive oil, garlic, peppers, herbs and spices.  It has a great kick to it and works really well with most Mediterranean food.

This went down a treat with the super light batter and deliciously addictive sauce perfectly complimenting each other.

Next for the main event we went for a taster of some of their crowd pleasing BBQ style offerings.  Rob brought us out a selection of Ribs, Chicken, Sweet Potato Fries, Corn on the Cob and rustic homemade Coleslaw.  This was just what we needed after a busy week of work and really hit the spot.  I think one of best things about CC Cabanas is they serve a real mix of styles with fine dinning alongside hearty finger-licking fayre.  I always think a good test of how good a restaurants food is how quiet everyone goes once it arrives, and we scoffed in completely content silence for a good ten minutes!  The food was amazing, packed full of flavour and the attention to detail was clear to see and taste.

The Chicken came in a Spicy Satay and a mouth tingling Piri Piri.  It was perfectly cooked, moist, flavoursome and very moreish.  It went perfectly with the Sweet Potato Fries which we could not get enough of!

The Ribs were also amazing and just fell off the bone, they came with a decadent Jack Daniels Bourbon Glaze, a must for any BBQ lover! The depth of flavour in the gaze and seasoning was fantastic, we’d definitely recommend trying them and will be back for more!

The food was great, and the service excellent, with friendly and helpful staff.  You can tell they really love their food and care about you having a good time with never an empty glass.  To say CC Cabanas is a hidden gem is an understatement!  It would be interesting to go back and try their Sunday Dinners too as they offer a more traditional Sunday menu alongside their normal one, with all the classics like a Sunday Roast and Fish and Chips.

We really pigged out on the food and probably over did it but it was just so good!

With our bellies full of BBQ food we relaxed and ordered a few more drinks.

I would love to have said we tried some of their puddings as I have seen a few like their Poached Pears and “Geordie Mess” and they look amazing.
