Billy Bootleggers

Billy Bootleggers

There’s an all-new Americana style dive bar in town and judging by the crowds that have been rushing in there – it’s just what Newcastle city centre needs.

Less than a month since the bar swung open its doors (directly below No28 Bar on Nelson Street), the 60-person capacity venue has hosted live performances from Sir Jac’s Bantamacs, Stuggle Buggys, Broken Levee, The King Bees and many more. The doors open at 5pm and entry is free all evening.

Guests who have saved their cash on an entry fee can treat themselves to one of the Bourbon cocktails, with our personal recommendations being Madison’s “wake up call” Martini or Janine’s “jakeface” Manhattan.

If you’re visiting Billy Bootleggers throughout April then upcoming highlights include Rob Heron & the Tea Pad Orchestra, well-known as Newcastle’s finest swing-rockabilly band and a rare appearance in an intimate venue as their crowd following stretches into the thousands.

Also, George Shovlin and The Radars will be performing on Saturday, 29th April, a local legend from Roker, Sunderland, who has been inducted in the Blues Hall of Fame in recognition of his four-decade long contribution to blues and roots music.

Music promoter John Nellist said, “George Shovlin’s upcoming performance, someone who’s not only a blues legend but also a hall of famer, just proves that Billy Bootleggers is on the map for the best weekend entertainment in town.

Director Jamie Murray also added, “We’re a homegrown, independent business and something the city centre has not seen before. Supporting either up and coming acts, or more seasoned bands with a loyal, local following, is what Billy Bootleggers will be known for – that and the home-brewed Moonshine we have to offer too.”
